Chefs in the City

Artlogic is extremely excited to announce our first special project for this year’s Sanlam Handmade Contemporary (FoodWineDesign) Fair.

This year, three top chefs will be preparing their signature dishes for our visitors. The Chefs in the City project will see David Higgs, Michael Holenstein and Thom Hughes each take the stand for one day and treat visitors to their wares.

David Higgs of the Saxon Boutique Hotel will be hosting the Chefs in the City stand on Opening Night and on Sunday 9 November. David, an old friend of the Fair, has an endless number of awards to his name, and is currently Eat Out’s Chef of the Year. Having moved to Joburg from the Cape four years ago, he recently opened the Saxon’s Five Hundred, which has quickly proved itself as one of the city’s top dining destinations.

Michael Holenstein of De Hoek Country Estate will be joining us at the Fair for the first time. MichaelĀ  regularly figures as one of the top chefs in South Africa, thanks to his innovative yet classic and unpretentious food. De Hoek, in the Magaliesberg, has won many local and international awards for its excellence, including the World Luxury Hotel Award in its category for best country house in the world. He’ll be manning the Chefs in the City stand on Friday 7 November, so pop by to meet him and sample his wares.

Thom Hughes, who we’ve dubbed the Guru of Gastropub, is co-owner of several of Jozi’s favourite spots – the Office, the Griffin, Perron and, most recently, the Steamworks. Having trained in London, where he ended up as Head Chef of the famous White Horse in Parson’s Green, he returned to SA in 2005 with the experience and the will to start up a local Gastropub. Kicking off with the Loft in Melville, and subsequently the Attic in Parkhurst, he’s repeated this dream several times over, with much critical and commercial success. He’ll be taking to the stand on Saturday 8 November – be sure not to miss it!

The Fair takes place from Friday 7 November- Sunday 9 November. Tickets are R90 from Webtickets or R100 at the door.
