A return to retro…

This year’s Sanlam Investments FoodWineDesign Fair will be seeing a strong focus on collaborations. One such union will be a stand shared by Cape Town textile and homeware designer Skinni laMinx and Joburg mid-century modern furniture boutique, Modernist.

Designer and illustrator Heather Moore, creator of Skinny laMinx, started out four years ago and has successfully cultivated a devoted following both locally and abroad. When asked to describe her brand aesthetic, Heather explains that, ‘Skinny laMinx style is clean and clear, with a broad appeal. There’s a feeling of Scandinavian simplicity, pared-down Japanese restraint, and South African exuberance all rolled into one fresh and distinctive style.’ This will be her first time exhibiting at FWD, and she’ll be selling homeware, Christmas decorations and other irresistible goods.

Modernist was opened last year by Gavin Thomas and Anikesh Ramani. The duo are firm believers in 1950s design aesthetic and the furniture on offer at their store reflects this sensibility in anything from dining room tables and headboards to smalls like light fittings, ashtrays and other objets.

The two brands felt that their products matched beautifully and that the result would make for an eye-catching space. Visit their store from 23-24 November on the roof of Hyde Park Corner to decide for yourself.
